All Warranty Direct policies are fully insured for maximum peace of mind. This means that we are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority in every respect. In the unlikely event of any dispute or default you will have access to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) and the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS).
Warranty Direct covers the cost of mechanical and electrical failure of insured parts. Wear and tear to a covered part and damage to an insured part caused by an uninsured part, sometimes referred to as consequential damage, are also covered. For comparison, we estimate these two items to be worth 40% of your premium. (Other providers exclude such cover so beware inferior imitations!). Warranty Direct policies also cover repairs identified at the time of service or MOT test, failure as a result of overheating* and the cost of reasonable diagnostic time.
With alternative warranty products disputes often arise in respect of wear & tear because they incorporate a "wear & tear" exclusion clause. At the time of any claim it is all too easy for the administrator to refuse your claim by saying; "of course it's broken, the car's done 40,000 miles and it's worn out."
Some warranty providers complicate matters by referring to different types of wear & tear. "Premature", "Gradual", "Normal" and "General" are terms used to confuse the consumer. 'Premature' will sometimes be covered but the others will frequently not be.
All Warranty Direct policies protect you against failure caused by a type of wear & tear because parts can fail due to wear & tear at any time. Consider these facts, the average motorist covers about 10,000 miles per year so by the end of the normal 3 year manufacturer warranty the vehicle has covered about 30,000 miles - yet 40% of vehicles require repairs in year 4 and many of these repairs can be attributed to 'wear & tear.' So beware of any policy that doesn't offer, or even suggests you don't need, wear & tear cover and always pay any extra demanded if wear & tear is unwisely promoted as an option.
If you take out one of our policies immediately before the manufacturer's original new car warranty expires your wear & tear protection will start from day one - otherwise your vehicle's wear & tear cover will start after the first 90 days. We adopt this policy because our years of experience have shown that wear & tear failures arising in the first 90 days on cover are almost always pre-existing faults that were apparent before the vehicle came on cover. Upon renewal, wear & tear cover obviously applies from day one. This approach is unique to Warranty Direct and reflects our position as industry leaders for customer service and satisfaction. A good example of a wear related failure is a failed water pump as a result of worn bearings. This type of claim will be rejected by a warranty policy that does not cover failure caused by wear & tear.
If an uninsured part fails and damages or breaks an insured part, then we will pay the costs attributed to the repair or replacement of the insured part as per any other claim. Other warranty companies refuse to settle such claims.
This type of failure can result in very large bills. A good example is the failure of an alternator belt which in itself is a service item and therefore not covered. These belts, when they come off, get caught up in the timing belt resulting in damaged pistons and valves in the engine.

A Warranty Direct warranty covers failures to insured parts that are found during a Service or MOT Test. In addition, our levels of cover and our policy claim limits remain in force at these important times unlike alternative policies where, even if included, cover and claim limits are often reduced. There are few occasions during the year that your car is inspected so beware warranties that exclude failures discovered at Service or MOT Test.
Some warranty companies will also attempt to sell you MOT Test insurance as an extra - this cover includes a very limited number of parts and is generally poor value - particularly when sold as an extra.
Warranty Direct policies cover failure due to overheating which is often excluded from cover elsewhere. The results of a sudden increase in engine temperature can be catastrophic and very expensive. Warranty Direct covers such failure as long as the timing belt has been changed at the vehicle manufacturer's recommended interval for the model concerned.
When you purchase your warranty we will offer you a choice of hourly labour rates for any future repairs that will either be paid directly to our contracted network or reimbursed to you at time of claim. Our maximum Network labour rate is currently £72 per hour including VAT. Our franchised labour rate is £240 including VAT which will cover the charges of just about every garage in the UK. The price you pay for your cover will vary according to your preference. You can select any VAT registered garage for repairs and they will call Warranty Direct for immediate claim authorisation.
Everything eventually wears out and our unique approach to wear & tear is possible because we ask for a contribution towards parts repair cost as the vehicle ages or covers higher mileages. If your vehicle is less than 6 years or less than 60,000 miles old we will pay the full cost of parts and labour. For vehicles over 6 years or 60,000 miles, the table below shows the percentage we will pay towards parts depending on the vehicle's age and mileage at the time of breakdown. We always pay the labour cost in full.

Your policy includes up to a maximum contribution of £250 toward recovery cost if a breakdown is a result of failure of an insured part and if you do not have cover elsewhere. If you make a valid claim, we will pay up to the daily limit in your policy schedule (including VAT) for up to seven days towards the cost of hiring a replacement car. We will only pay for a replacement vehicle if your vehicle is being repaired under the terms of this insurance, and the repair will take over eight hours of workshop time to complete. We will not pay for a replacement vehicle for the first 24 hours your vehicle is out of use and we will not pay for any fuel or insurance in connection with a hire car.
